DePIN Infrastructure Wars: Mapping the Emerging Layer

Billions in hardware are being deployed. Most of it won't survive the decade.

The DePIN narrative has attracted more capital in the past 18 months than the previous three years combined. The core thesis, that crypto-native incentive structures can bootstrap physical infrastructure networks faster and more efficiently than traditional capital allocation, is compelling. The execution risk is equally compelling. Building and maintaining physical hardware requires a different operational DNA than shipping smart contracts.

The implications extend beyond the immediate data. What we’re seeing is a fundamental shift in how capital formation works in crypto markets, one that rewards participants who combine on-chain transparency with traditional macro frameworks. The convergence of these two analytical traditions is producing insights unavailable through either lens alone.

The practical question isn’t whether this dynamic exists, but how to position around it systematically. We’ll continue tracking these developments in future issues.
